Drawing inspiration from both nature and nurture, Dawn Hues is the concept of both the legacy we have been gifted and the one we hope to leave. A story continually retold, woven and mended at the hands of the maker in the meadow.

Shared through handmade items for the house and home, and organically grown florals from the Finger Lakes region of New York.

High Meadows is the name my Dad gave our property when he and Mom bought it in the early 1960’s. It has always been a place of beauty and respite. Summer days were, and continue to be, spent wandering in tall grasses with bees buzzing. Nights are for stargazing and the sounds of owls and crickets.

After careful consideration, a conservation easement through the Finger Lakes Land Trust was begun with the intention to preserve the rural and forever wild land that my parents, Margot and Don, loved so much.

Making has always been a part of my life… mending and embellishing jeans as a teenager, sewing sweet costumes for my toddlers, and then creating ball gowns for them as high schoolers— all fed into my love of creating. Dried floral wreaths, hand-sewn felt ornaments, quilts for those near and dear, woven creations and handmade teddy bears, have all met my craving for expressing warmth to loved ones. Sewing, knitting, felting, embroidery, and spinning yarn have been my most constant crafting companions, though recently I have been enjoying dyeing fibers and fabrics.

The idea of planting a floral garden was our daughter’s. With a focus on both annuals and perennials (naturally cared for and nurtured without the use of toxic chemicals), we have found that growing flowers in our little field has proven to be a great joy.

Dawn Hues honors the love of family and of High Meadows. This land has moved us into the locally grown, locally made movement.

I’m thrilled to be able to share all these things with you!
